does beauty satisfy?

hello lovely people!

as i was thinking of what i wanted to write about, God totally put this topic on my heart, "does beauty satisfy?" This is an extremely important topic because so many girls are believing the lie that beauty will satisfy them.

before we jump in, i wanted to give yall a little story...

one of my friends has been struggling a lot with insecurity, body image issues, and self hatred. She would often talk about how much she wanted to loose weight, be more beautiful, and have more fashionable clothes. "If i was skinny, I would be happy," she would always say to me. I became aware of how big this issue truly is, because so many are falling under the lie that beauty = joy. Something else i discovered was that she always compared herself to others. We would be out at the beach and she would say, "Jaycie, look at that girl. Look how skinny and beautiful she is! I wish i could look like her." But a quote that i love so much says this, "comparison is the thief of joy," and it is so so so true.

I've heard it all...

if i was pretty, then i would be happy
if i was skinny, then i would be happy
if i was rich, then i would be happy
if i was popular, then i would be happy
if i was dating someone, then i would be happy

I think at one point in our life, we have all said at least one of these things. I sure know i have! but just because we all think it, does not mean it is ok. This type of attitude is just a path to sadness and emptiness.

It is simply a path to destruction because none of these things will ever be enough. If you loose weight, you will just want to keep loosing more. If you get rich, you will just keep wanting more money.

None of these things will ever be able to satisfy us, because none of them will ever be enough.

Let's just face it, we live in a culture where nothing is ever enough. You see the media telling us that being beautiful will make you happy, but you don't know the story behind a beautiful face.

You see models with the most skinny legs and a perfect smile, but you don't know the soul inside.

Believing the lies of the culture is one of the worst things you can do. It will leave you completely empty. We weren't made to be satisfied by things of the flesh, we were made to be satisfied by Jesus.

Psalm 16:11 says this, "  You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

So although the lie that beauty satisfies is only a path of destruction, the truth that Jesus is joy is the path of life.

If we cling to the good truth of Jesus, our hearts will be so full of joy. Jesus came to save us, sustain us, fill us, and satisfy us. He loves us! He loves you! but something that i have learned is that isn't enough to just be loved by Jesus, we have to respond to His love for us in order to have satisfaction.

If we don't know that we're loved by God, it won't do us much good. but, if we respond to His love for us and we live in the freedom He offers, & we wont be able to contain the joy!!!

we DON'T have to do anything to be loved by God, but in order to have His satisfaction, we have to live loved. this is how i like to put it... "we just have to respond to His love for us, because it isn't anything we have done. We are loved because of what He did. so therefore its not about us, its about Him." <3

you are so deeply loved and cherished by Jesus Christ. but what matters is KNOWING your loved.

so to wrap this all up, I want to stress that beauty does not and will never satisfy the human heart. true satisfaction and joy comes only from Jesus, and ONLY Jesus. Seek after God, because He is a firm foundation in this unsteady world. this is an extremely important issue that so many people are getting caught up in, so I cant ever say how important it is to know how loved you truly are!

xoxo,
jaycie <3
